Sweeping lights on the water, guiding men along dangerous sand banks and into secure harbours, preventing ships from breaking on rocky coasts and sailors from suffering. Artificial structures made by men, grounded on the genius of clever ingeniousity, standing strong in wild seas, solitary and unyielding.

Lighthouses - mark and symbol at once - have inspired men through all ages.

The Pharos of Alexandria, considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Lizard Point, for hundreds of thousands of immigrants the mark of the final leave from the Old World, and the beginning of a passage into the Unknown.
La Jument in the storm ("Phare dans la Tempête"), taken on film in the aweinspiring series of photographs by Jean Guichard, standing for the neverending fight between the raw forces of wind and waves running up against the solid structure made by men.

You, dear Deviant, have fallen for the charm of these lights over the water. With the work in your gallery you have created an image of the dreams, ideas and values that lighthouses transport right into our hearts.

We - *Virtue78 and *largethomas - have founded a new club that has set itself the goal of giving a platform to all lighthouse lovers to share their passion. In displaying your lighthouse related works for others to see we hope to inspire and to nourish those dreams that lighthouses inspire in us.

Protection and security. Isolation and willpower. Ingeniousity and resistance.
